NORTH READING – Some of the area’s top high school baseball players will converge on North Reading High School’s Carey Park this Saturday afternoon, July 8, for the annual Northeast Conference All-Star Game. First pitch takes place at 4 p.m.

The Northeast Conference is a highly competitive nine-team circuit comprising high school players from Billerica, Dracut, Lowell, Lowell Catholic, North Reading, Tewksbury, Tyngsboro, Westford, and Wilmington.

Representing North Reading in the game will be Ryan Connor, Alex D’Ambrosio, and Marco Vittozzi. Connor, a rising junior, has been the starting pitcher in three of the Hornets’ four victories this summer; D’Ambrosio, another rising junior, is the team’s starting shortstop and a relief pitcher; and Vittozzi, who will be a senior in 2017-18, is the squad’s leading hitter and handles second base duties. All three were part of this year’s high school varsity squad that reached the state tournament.

North Reading owns a 4-3 mark on the season, having won its last two games: 9-3 over Tyngsboro and 7-2 over Dracut. The Hornets have five regular-season games remaining, including home tilts vs. Wilmington (July 16, 6 p.m.) and Billerica (July 18, 6 p.m.). The squad is coached by Marco Vittozzi, an NRHS grad who also serves as North Reading Little League’s player development director.
