NORTH READING — The unprecedented weather events have caused some unusual events to occur in town. Ice has been freezing air intakes, gas meters, and vents. In addition falling ice has come down and severed gas lines causing immediate major gas leaks. Frozen gas meters have caused heating systems to not run properly and gas leaks.
Please check your buildings to make sure that:
1. Gas meters are clear of snow and ice and are protected from falling ice.
2. Air vents and intakes are free of snow and ice buildup.
3. Roof snow loads are monitored and action taken if necessary.
4. All Fire exits and exit discharges are free and clear of snow and ice.
If you smell gas or have an activation of a carbon monoxide detector please call the fire department immediately.
