NORTH READING — The Town of North Reading Select Board issued this proclamation in honor of Veterans’ Day 2020.

Select Board Chairwoman Kathryn Manupelli read this proclamation at the board’s Nov. 2 meeting.

This year’s Veterans’ Day ceremony was held virtually due to COVID-19 and may be viewed on The NORCAM1 YouTube channel.

The proclamation:

WHEREAS: in a world where a pandemic has stunted our lives in so many unimaginable ways; we come together today with honor and pride to commemorate the legacy of all Veteran generations who have served and sacrificed for this great Nation. Today we take time to reflect with pride and gratitude for America’s men and women in uniform who have selflessly sacrificed and committed their lives to answer the call to defend our nation; and

WHEREAS: today this great land has seen a horrific epidemic of violence that has rocked this Nation to the core resulting in deployments of Warriors throughout many sections of this country to assist law enforcement agencies. Our Veterans have shed their blood and families have sacrificed their loved ones for our freedom of speech. We as Americans should not take this for granted; we should take time and think before we act and speak. We are ALL Americans and should respect one another no matter their race/creed/or color; and

WHEREAS: in a world today where we are forced to live in a virtual communicative state we must be ever mindful of our Veterans struggling with mental health issues, addictions, and homelessness that has amplified due to COVID-19. We must remain vigilant, proactive and work together to assist and guide our Veterans in need; and

WHEREAS: our world today continues to deal with the stress of absenteeism from their loved ones, families and friends; this hardship has added additional stress to our warriors coming home from tours of duty and months of training then forced to quarantine for weeks before being reunited with their loved ones, please keep them in your prayers; and

WHEREAS: on this day we honor our Gold Star Families who have sacrificed the ultimate, keep them in your prayers; they will forever carry the legacy of their loved one through memories; and

WHEREAS: on this day we renew our commitment to our children through guidance and education the importance of honor, respect, and appreciation for the valor and sacrifice our Veterans and Warriors have made. We must continue to educate them on the history of this great Nation.

Now, Therefore, We the Select Board of North Reading do hereby proclaim that Veterans’ Day should be celebrated on this 11th day of November 2020 in the Town of North Reading. We encourage you to continue to display the American Flag with pride on your homes, offices, and town buildings to recognize the valor and sacrifices of our Veterans and Warriors through ceremony and prayer.

Given at the Select Board Meeting this Second day of November Two Thousand and Twenty by Select Board Chair Kathryn Manupelli.
