WAKEFIELD — As things look now, there will be a number of uncontested seats filled in the April 23 Town Election.

Although a deadline to withdraw from voter consideration has not yet passed, two important deadlines have. And with them, the election field begins to take on a much more realistic form.

With yesterday’s deadline to return nomination papers reached, and all signatures on those papers verified, there will only be contested races for Town Council, where four people are running for three open seats; the Board of Health, where two seek one seat up for election; and Gas and Light Commissioner, with four hopefuls seeking two open positions.

Greg Liakos will not seek reelection to the School Committee, and neither will Ronald J. Masse Jr. As a result, Chairman Thomas F. Markham III will be reelected, and Susan Veilleux and Thomas Flynn will join the board, filling all three open seats.

KEY DATES

The last day to object to, or withdraw nomination papers will be Thursday, March 21, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The last day for residents to register to vote in this spring’s municipal election is Wednesday, April 3.
