WAKEFIELD — The Wakefield Townies Summer Baseball program is now accepting registration for players interested in playing competitive baseball this summer. The program is open for players between the ages of 13-19 who have an interest or currently play high school baseball.
The program usually consists of teams based on age — 13, 13-14, 15/16, and 16-19 year olds. Numbers dictate what age groups are filled. The teams play in the Lou Tompkins All-Star Baseball League and the Middlesex Senior Babe Ruth League.
The Lou Tompkins League, for ages 13-16, begins around Father’s Day weekend and the Senior Babe Ruth Team begins play in early June, following the high school playoffs. Teams can play as few as 18 and as many as 24 games and the season usually can end the first week in August, if not earlier if a team is eliminated from playoffs.
Most rosters consist of 15 players and five alternates, as summer vacations play a key role on having enough players on game days.
Townies Baseball is also looking for managers and assistant coaches for the 13 year old team, 13-14 year old team, and 15-16 year old team.
