LYNNFIELD — Townspeople voted overwhelmingly for Republican Donald Trump in the Presidential Election on Tuesday.

According to the unofficial results released to the Villager by Town Clerk Trudy Reid, 7,459 out of the town’s 9,326 eligible voters cast ballots in the Presidential Election.

Trump defeated Democratic challenger Hillary Clinton 3,739 votes to 3,122 votes. The real estate mogul turned reality TV star carried all four the town’s precincts. Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson received 285 votes and Green Party candidate Jill Stein received 66 votes. There were 128 blanks and 119 write-ins.

According to the unofficial results, Trump received 887 votes in Precinct 1, 912 votes in Precinct 2, 887 votes in Precinct 3 and 1,053 in Precinct 4.

The unofficial results revealed Clinton received 795 votes in Precinct 1, 863 votes in Precinct 2, 695 votes in Precinct 3 and 769 votes in Precinct 4.

Johnson received 79 votes in Precinct 1, 61 votes in Precinct 2, 59 votes in Precinct 3 and 86 votes in Precinct 4.

According to the unofficial results, Stein had 16 votes in Precinct 1, 20 votes in Precinct 2, 17 votes in Precinct 3 and 13 votes in Precinct 4.

Sheriff’s race

In the race for Essex County sheriff, Republican Anne Manning-Martin defeated Democratic challenger Kevin Coppinger 3,149 votes to 2,714 votes.

Coppinger ended up winning the race county-wide.

Additionally, independent candidates Mark Archer and Kevin Leach received 396 and 284 votes, respectively. There were also 907 blanks and nine write-ins.

Manning-Martin, a Peabody city councilor currently serving as the deputy superintendent at the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital Correctional Unit, received 811 votes in Precinct 1, 768 votes in Precinct 2, 639 votes in Precinct 3 and 931 votes in Precinct 4.

Coppinger, Lynn current’s police chief and a former Lynnfield patrolman, received 658 votes in Precinct 1, 750 votes in Precinct 2, 672 votes in Precinct 3 and 634 votes in Precinct 4.

Archer received 91 votes in Precinct 1, 111 votes in Precinct 2, 95 votes in Precinct 3 and 99 in Precinct 4. Leach received 71 votes in Precinct 1, 65 votes in Precinct 2, 69 votes in Precinct 3 and 79 votes in Precinct 4.

Ballot questions

In addition to the presidential and sheriff races, townspeople also voted on four ballot questions.

Similar to the statewide results, voters rejected Question 1, which would have allowed the State Gaming Commission to issue another slots parlor license, 4,502 votes to 2,759 votes.

Voters rejected Question 2, which would have expanded the number of charter schools in the state, 4,508 votes to 2,830 votes.

Townspeople agreed with the rest of the state that protecting farm animals is the right thing to do, as Question 3 passed 5,700 votes to 1,606 votes. Question 3 will establish regulations for farm animals.

While Question 4 passed statewide, the marijuana legalization ballot question went up in smoke here. Voters rejected Question 4 in Lynnfield 4,427 votes to 2,940 votes.

Other candidates

Aside from the two contested races and four ballot questions, four incumbents facing no opposition were re-elected.

Sixth District Councilor Terrence Kennedy, 3 Stafford Rd., received 4,951 votes in his hometown. There were 2,432 blanks and 76 write-ins.

Congressman Seth Moulton received 5,011 votes. There were 2,309 blanks and 139 write-ins.

State Rep. Brad Jones (R-North Reading) received 5,427 votes. There were 1,986 blanks and 46 write-ins.

State Senator Tom McGee (D-Lynn) received 4,688 votes. There were 2,694 blanks and 76 write-ins.
