Annual draft will be on June 10

WAKEFIELD — The Twi-League baseball season is nearly here and the league will be holding its annual draft which is scheduled for Wednesday, June 10. So all submissions are due to the league by Tuesday, June 9.

The season is tentatively slated to begin with a triple header on Sunday, June 21 at Moulton Field.

Anyone that’s out of high school that wants to play summer baseball this year can contact Tom Kelleher via e-mail at thomaspkelleher@gmail.com. A league representative will reach out to the drafted players after June 10.

Please include all of your playing background including: age, positions, experience and town of residence. Please include a phone number and e-mail address so that a drafting team can contact you. All players must be 18 years of age. The fee for the league varies by team. The Twi-League welcomes all new and past players to join.

For over 30 years Wakefield Twi-League Baseball has been an outlet for the town’s baseball athletes to relive their past, playing and coaching the greatest game on earth. Every summer, Wakefield residents and a few chosen outside residents enjoy playing baseball each night in the month of June, July and August. For many, it is the most convenient way to stay in touch with old friends while others just cannot wait to play the game.

Unlike softball, adult baseball leagues are hard to find throughout this area. Most baseball fields are occupied by youth, teen and semi-pro leagues. The Wakefield Twi-League is unique in that adults ages 18 and up have a chance to play even if their skill level is not semi-pro quality.

The Twi-League’s games are played at either Moulton Field or Walsh Field. Six teams, some of which have been together since the league’s inception, battle it out for 12 games with four teams making the playoffs. All weeknight games begin at 6 p.m. to allow for players to commute from work.

The Wakefield Twi-League has various sponsors and is always looking for others.
