ROCKPORT — The Lynnfield High golf team improved to 3-0 on Monday afternoon as they beat host Rockport, 150-144, at Rockport Country Club.

“Only two of our guys have played at Rockport Country Club before,” pointed out Pioneers head coach Mike Moresco. “It is a tricky course.”

Senior co-captain, Deven Henehan, led the team in points with 28 while Brady Field was second with 27.

“That was Brady’s second career start and he had his best round ever,” said Moresco, about the eighth-slotted junior.

Moresco also gave credit to seventh-slotted Ryan MacEachern, who lost his match, but made it close with a late rally as his score was the team’s sixth best (the top six of eight total scores count).

“If Ryan didn’t make up some of the deficit we would have probably lost that match,” said Moresco.

On Sept. 5, the Pioneers rolled over host Pentucket, 159-95, at Haverhill Country Club.

“We played the back nine there which none of our players have ever played before,” said Moresco, as Haverhill is a private course. “They were not intimated.”

Joe Raffa led the team in points with 31.

“He played a great match,” stated Moresco, about the senior.

Owen Mullin, who missed the Rockport match due to a back injury, was second with 27 points.

The home match on Sept. 7 against Essex Tech at Sagamore Spring was postponed due to the excessive heat (make-up date unknown as of press time).

On Sept. 13, the Pioneers go to the Myopia Hunt Club to take on Hamilton-Wenham. On Sept. 19, they play host Ipswich at Ipswich County Club.

Both of those matches will start at 3:30 p.m.
