WAKEFIELD — The public is invited to attend the Town of Wakefield Veterans Day Ceremony on Monday, November 11. Veterans Day is intended to thank and honor all those who served honorably in the military, living and dead whether in wartime or peace. In fact, Veterans Day is largely intended to thank living Veterans for their service, to acknowledge that their contributions to our national security are appreciated and to underscore the fact that all those who serve have sacrificed and done their duty.
The theme for Veterans Day 2024 is “A Legacy of Loyalty and Service.” The Veterans Advisory Board is pleased to announce Wakefield native Commander Shelby Nikitin, United States Navy (USN) as our guest speaker. There is no better role model to support this theme for our community.
Commander Shelby M. Nikitin recently completed her command tour onboard the USS THOMAS HUDNER (DDG 116). Under her leadership, the ship deployed to protect maritime shipping from illegal, dangerous and destabilizing Houthi attacks against vessels transiting the Red Sea. For her ship’s actions in this combat zone, Commander Nikitin was awarded the Bronze Star for her extraordinary leadership and bravery in defending lives and protecting the free flow of commerce in one of the world’s most critical waterways.
This ceremony features live performances by the award-winning Wakefield Memorial High School Band and Wakefield Memorial High School Chorus. The Wakefield Public Schools Music Department is honored to be recognized as the Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) from the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM Foundation) for outstanding commitment to music education. These award-winning performances are not to be missed!
Town of Wakefield 2024 Veterans Day Ceremony is scheduled at the General Galvin Middle School Memorial Auditorium on Monday, November 11 at 11 a.m.
