Obit-Martin-webWAKEFIELD — Virginia C. Martin, 69, of Wakefield died Sunday, April 17, after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Cambridge June 25, 1946 and was the beloved daughter of the late John and Lillian (Fogerty) Cannon.

Jini was raised in Watertown and Gloucester and was a graduate of Gloucester High School, Class of 1964, and later from Fitchburg State College, School of Nursing.

She had a career of more than 30 years of nursing at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. Jini had been a Wakefield resident since 1975 and was a member of St. Joseph Parish, Wakefield Garden Club, Lucius Beebe Memorial Library Reading Club and the Mary Circle of Manchester.

She enjoyed travel and was devoted to her five grandchildren.

Jini was the beloved wife of the late Ronald Jude Martin. She was the loving mother of Christian S. Martin and his wife Christine of Swampscott and Pamela M. Preston and her husband Matthew of Andover. She was the devoted grandmother Erik, Samantha, Magnolia, James and Molly. She is also survived her brother Robert Cannon and her sister Patricia Kelliher of Gloucester.

Her funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield, on Thursday at 9 a.m. to be followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery.
