WAKEFIELD — Several local groups received grants from the Wakefield Cultural Council. The Council recently — and enthusiastically — congratulates this year’s grant recipients. A reception is being planned for the spring. Proposals for community-oriented arts, humanities, and science programs were submitted between September 1 through October 15, 2021.

The Wakefield Cultural Council recently awarded over $12,000 in grants to:

• Walton School: Afro-Brazilian Ensemble;

• Arts Collaborative of Wakefield website hosting and domain name;

• Lucius Beebe Memorial Library: BeebeCon;

• The Delvena Theatre Company: Bon Appetit, Julia!;

• Boston’s Female Mariachi Concert;

• Community Coloring Books;

• Cool Classics with the Nissitissit String Quartet;

• Greater Boston Stage Company: Discounted Tickets for Wakefield Students & Seniors;

• Hip Hop Dance Chair Exercise for Seniors;

• Boys & Girls Club of Stoneham: Indigenous Educational Workshops;

• Wakefield Public Schools: Learning About Differences & Disabilities (LADD) Presents Sam Drazin, Open Door Connections;

• Linden Tree Coffeehouse: Notable New Englanders;

• Discovery Museum: Open Door Connections;

• Early Childhood Center, Doyle School: Pete the Cat by Theaterworks;

• Wakefield Historical Society: Researching the History of Your Old House;

• Story of the Bee – Kamishibai;

• NSCFRN: Talewise: The Mystery of the Missing Band Show;

• Middlesex Concert Band: The Sounds of Music;

• Wakefield Human Rights Commission: Wakefield Pride family concert;

• WHS Theater Arts Season;

• Greenwood Elementary School: “Improv for Inclusion: Acceptance and Support”

The Wakefield Arts Council is part of a network of 329 Local Cultural Councils serving all 351 cities and towns in the Commonwealth. This extensive grassroots system of public support for community cultural programs is unmatched anywhere in the United States, supporting thousands of community-based projects in the arts, humanities, and interpretive science projects every year.

Mass Cultural Council’s Local Cultural Council Program distributes funds to local and regional cultural councils, which then regrant funds to arts, humanities, and interpretive science projects in their own communities.
