Avid reader with a kind spirit

WAKEFIELD — Mary Ann O’Neil, aged 72, of Wakefield, formerly of Stoneham, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 7 at the Lahey Hospital & Medical Center.  

Born in Woburn on April 8, 1952, to the late Charles F. and Rose (Fitzgerald) Day. She was the cherished sister of Rosemary Morgan of Lynnfield and Susan Day of Wakefield.

Mary Ann was a proud graduate of Stoneham High School, class of 1970. She was an avid reader and would always be ready with a recommendation for your next book. Her passion for reading led her to her professional calling, Mary Ann spent 30 years as a library technician at the Flint Memorial Library in North Reading where she was known by many as the genealogy extraordinaire. She will be missed dearly by the staff of the library and her dear friend and colleague, Sharon Kelliher.

Mary Ann was the beloved wife of Robert O’Neil with whom she shared 46 wonderful years of marriage. She was the loving and dedicated mother of Erin and her husband Matthew Fitzgerald. She is also survived by a large extended family including Bobby’s nine siblings, many nieces, nephews and cousins whom she loved dearly. She was also the cherished “Mimi” to many including her great-nephews Charles, Oliver and Henry Morgan.

Mary Ann’s quiet, beautiful smile and kind spirit will be missed here on earth, but we will find comfort knowing she is enjoying her well-earned eternal rest.

Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham on Saturday, June 15 at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
