Devoted to his family and had a great sense of humor

WAKEFIELD — Edward M. Simpson Jr. age 83, a longtime Wakefield resident, died Wednesday, November 30 at the Lahey Clinic and Medical Center in Burlington.

Born in Boston on May 21, 1939 he was the son of the late Edward M. and Katherine (Delaney) Simpson. He was the beloved husband of Mary (Burke) Simpson, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage. He was the loving father of Edward M. Simpson III and his wife Lisa of Melrose; and was the grandfather of Patrick Simpson.

Edward was raised in Dorchester and was a graduate of Cathedral High School. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force and was a B52 mechanic. In 1969 he married his wife and after a couple of years of marriage the two settled in Wakefield and raised their family. He was a retired security guard having worked for Alliance Security. Edward was an avid sports fan, most especially the Red Sox and Patriots. Together with his wife, the two enjoyed traveling; enjoying many weekend trips to Maine and vacations to Bermuda. He was also an avid reader of spy novels. Above all, Edward was devoted to his family and had a great sense of humor.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Tuesday, December 6 from 4-6 p.m. A prayer service will follow at 6 p.m.
