Loved spending time with his family

WAKEFIELD — Francis Leo “Frank” Penders of Wakefield passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, April 26, 2022, after a long and courageous battle with esophageal cancer, surrounded by his loving family.

Frank was born in Boston on June 26, 1941, the son of the late Francis and Catherine (Stamp) Penders. He was raised in Revere, graduating from Revere High School in 1959. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served three years in active duty aboard the submarine USS Quillback.

Upon completion of his military service, he enrolled in night classes at Bentley University and after 10 long years he proudly received his Bachelor of Arts in Accounting. Frank was employed at the Massachusetts Port Authority as a Capital Budget Planner and as Deputy Budget Director, and later proudly served as a Field Audit Manager for the Office of the State Auditor of the Commonwealth.

Frank met his beloved wife, Carol (D’Andrea), at a Christmas party at the Bradford Hotel in Boston in 1967, while each of them were employed at the New England Merchants National Bank. They were married in 1968 at St. Joseph’s Church, and made their home in Wakefield for the next 53 years. He is survived by his wife Carol, and his son Kevin and daughter-in-law Neda of Foxborough. He will be missed greatly by his three grandchildren, Nicholas, Alex, and Nyla. Each were the pride and joy of his life. He is also survived by his “brother” of 64 years, Bob Boynton, as well as many other extended family and friends.

Frank was happiest when he was around Carol and his son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren. In earlier years, he coached youth basketball and was involved in the Boy Scouts. He enjoyed his many travels to Europe, Bermuda, and Mexico, but especially enjoyed spending time at the lake in Bridgton, Maine, or on the beach in West Dennis. He loved a good book, pegging extra points in cribbage, and a long sunset walk on the beach.

Calling hours for Frank will be held at McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Avenue, Wakefield, on Sunday, May 1, from 1 – 4 p.m. His funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church,173 Albion Street, Wakefield on Monday, May 2, at 10 a.m.
