A longtime art teacher who loved to garden

WAKEFIELD — JoAnn Koulouris Sparks, 66, died Thursday, January 13, 2022 in Beverly Hospital.

JoAnn was born on April 22, 1955 in Melrose, a daughter of Greek immigrants, George and Ethel (Scruftis) Koulouris. Raised in Wakefield, she graduated from Wakefield High School and later earned her Bachelor’s degree from UMass as well as earned her Masters in Education.

JoAnn was a longtime Art teacher in the Wakefield School Systems for over 20 years. She was passionate about teaching children and enjoyed her many years in Wakefield.

After she retired from teaching, she took her passion for gardening and spent her free time gardening local private homes and estates. She enjoyed the beauty of the flowers and landscapes.

Her hobbies and interests included gardening, cooking, art, baseball, and spending time with her son.

She leaves her son, Stephen Sparks and his wife, Hiba, of Newton and her grandson.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember JoAnn’s life by gathering on Friday, January 21 in Lakeside Cemetery, 501 North Avenue, Wakefield where her graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. There are no calling hours.
