WAKEFIELD — Marjorie S. Roos, 81, a longtime resident of Wakefield, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2020 after a long, heartbreaking battle with Alzheimers.

Marjorie was born in Everett on January 29, 1939. She was the middle of three daughters born to the late Stephen and Helen (Doherty) Jay. She was predeceased by her sister Mary and her husband Charles Doherty of Connecticut and is survived by her sister Ann and her husband Richard of Ipswich. She was raised in Melrose and graduated from St. Marys High School, Class of 1958.

She married Kenneth W. Roos on March 28, 1960 at St Marys Church in Melrose and moved to Wakefield to raise a family. They were married for 24 years until his sudden passing on July 11, 1984.

Marjorie is survived by her children, Carolyn Lake and her daughters Katherine, Courtney, and Jessica; Susan and her husband Ted McCusker and sons Joshua and Tyler; the late Michele Longwell, her husband Larry and sons Michael and Taylor; Kenneth and his wife Renee and sons Zachary and David, Christopher and his son Christopher; and Robert and his wife Maria and children Nicole, Andrew, and Elizabeth; many nieces and nephews as well as the most devoted group of friends.

She is also survived by her loving significant other, Daniel McGonigle and his sons, Daniel, Michael and Sean and their spouses and children.

Marge was a fun, loving, devoted, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved attending their sporting events, recitals, and performances. Tea parties and sleepovers at Nannie’s were always a cherished event. She loved spending time with her family. Holidays and get togethers with the whole gang were especially memorable. She had the most infectious smile and was cherished by all who met her. She was the life of the party and was always ready for a good time, especially when it came to dancing or a game of cards. One of her favorite sayings was “Got time for a game!” She will surely be missed by all.

The family would like to thank all of the wonderful caregivers from Help in Home, Avita, Wind Rose, Care Dimensions Hospice and Ascend Hospice. We are forever grateful for the kind and compassionate care that was given to Marjorie.

Services and a celebration of life will be announced at a future date when we can all safely gather to remember her. Having spent her whole adult life caring for all of us, we know this is how she would want it.

Arrangements are in the care of the McDonald Funeral Home in Wakefield.
