WAKEFIELD — Matthew J. Burns, Jr., age 95, A lifelong Wakefield resident, died on Saturday, January 22 at the Bear Hill Nursing Home.

Born in Wakefield on August 24, 1926, he was the son of the late Matthew J. and Julia (Boland) Burns.

Mr. Burns was a graduate of Wakefield High School and Northeastern University. He served in the United Sates Navy during World War II. Mr. Burns was a retired accountant for the Town of Wakefield. He was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Wakefield, the Wakefield K of C, the Wakefield Elks and the West Side Social Club. Mr. Burns was active in scouting.

He was the husband of the late Barbara J. (Russell) Burns. Mr. Burns is survived by is six children: Matthew J. Burns, III and his wife, Beatriz of VA; Mary Brunini and her husband, Jim, of Stoneham; Michael Burns and his wife, Donna, of Tewksbury; Margaret Hibbard and her husband, Ron, of Woburn; Lawrence J. Burns and his wife, Valarie, of Lowell and Timothy P. Burns and his husband, Ron Moores, of Canada. He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Mr. Burns was predeceased by his brother Msgr. Lawrence J. Burns and his two sisters: Ellen Quinn and Mary Lally.

Funeral services will be private.
