Loved to travel and was an avid Boston sports fan

WAKEFIELD — Stephen F. Carey, 66, of Wakefield, died December 24, 2021 in Boston. He was born on May 3, 1955 in Melrose and was the son of Jacqueline (Overstreet) Carey and the late Thomas P. Carey. Stephen was raised in Wakefield and was a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1973 and later from the University of Massachusetts, Boston. He had worked for many years for the General Electric Corporation and retired in 2017 as the Principal Engineer in the Health Care Division. He loved travel, the beach, the outdoors and was an avid follower of the Boston sports teams. He especially enjoyed playing in the organized softball leagues with his sons.

Stephen was the beloved husband of Mary T. (Greene) Carey. He was the loving father of Kevin T. Carey of Woburn, Ryan P. Carey of Quincy and the late Alex Carey. He was the brother of Barbara J. Reimers, John P. Carey, Michael D. Carey and James D. Carey and the late Patricia A. Carey, Cynthia A. Carey and Thomas P. Carey, Jr.. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Most Blessed Sacrament Church 1155 Main St. Wakefield on Friday, December 31 at 11 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home 19 Yale Avenue Wakefield on Thursday, December 30 from 4 – 8 p.m. (masks required).
