A soft spoken, kind and loving woman

NORTH ANDOVER — Susan “Susie” (Hurton) Levine passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 after a period of failing health. Susan was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was the first of twelve children in the Hurton family of Wakefield and family always came first for her.

Susan graduated from Wakefield High School in 1961 and Bridgewater State College in 1965. She was a teacher and then started a family with her husband George Levine whom she was married to for 56 years. She worked as a materials planner at KeyTek for many years where coworkers became dear friends who shared many adventures together.

Susan was soft spoken and kind. Even when she couldn’t find the words, she could communicate her love for those around her with her smile. Most of all, Susan enjoyed hosting and attending family gatherings, celebrating holidays and milestones and holding babies. Family has fond memories of summers in the backyard swimming pool, walking the lake, crafting and game nights, and trading romance novels with her sisters. In her later years, she enjoyed spending time at the North Andover Senior Center and then living at Ashland Farm assisted living community. Whenever there was an activity or a trip, Susan would be there.

In addition to her husband George, Susan is survived by her children: daughter Catherine “Cathy” and her husband, Robert “Bob” Kneeland Jr, daughter Ellen Levine, and son James “Jim” Levine. She also leaves behind three grandchildren, Alyssa Levine, Eric Levine and Korina Routt. She is survived by her brother Michael “Mickey” and wife Donna Hurton, brother Stephen Hurton and wife Sally, sister Jane and husband Marty Kelley, sister Patricia “Pat” and husband William “Bill” Forsyth, brother William “Billy” and wife Leslie Hurton, sister Constance “Connie” and husband Steve Greenfield, sister Karen and husband Frank Gurrisi, sister Elizabeth “Betsy” and husband Mitch Cohen, brother Timothy “Tim” Hurton, brother Thomas “Tom” and wife Linda Hurton, and brother Andrew Hurton. She also leaves behind her brother-in-law William “Will” and his wife June Levine, and sister-in-law Mary Levine and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Thomas and Margaret Hurton and brother-in-law Robert “Bob” Levine.

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life at The Irish Cottage Pub, 17 Branch Street in Methuen, MA on Sunday, January 23 from 12 – 4 p.m.
