WAKEFIELD A 32-year-old Wakefield man was arrested yesterday afternoon after he allegedly stole a Wakefield Police Department mountain bike.

An officer initially spotted the suspect riding the bike on North Avenue just after 3 p.m. Police units were able to catch up withnthe man in the 600 block of Main Street.

Jeremy P. Cardarelli of 26 Chestnut Street was arrested for receiving stolen property. He was also charged with resisting arrest after he fought police efforts to place him in a cruiser.

Police said that Cardarelli had been seen hanging around the Public Safety Building and it is believed that he was able to snatch the mountain bike from the garage area.

A New Salem Street woman contacted police on Friday to report a possible case of check fraud. The woman said that she was going through her business finances and found two checks cashed on her business account that she did not write. The checks were cashed in Burlington and Medford and amounted to several thousand dollars.

At about 8:15 on Friday night, a caller reported a water main break on Water Street in the area of Columbia Road. The DPW Water Division was notified and responded.

Just after 10:30 p.m. on Friday, police responded to a minor two-car crash at North Avenue and Prospect Street. There were no injuries but one citation was issued. Police assisted the drivers with the exchange of papers.

At about 11 p.m. on Friday night, police received a 911 call stating that someone had been jumped by five individuals at the Sunoco gas station on Salem Street. The assailants reportedly took off on Salem Street toward Lynnfield.

Responding officers were able to locate and speak to all of the involved individuals and determined that it started as an argument between two groups of teenagers and then escalated into a fight. There were no serious injuries and police will be viewing security camera footage as part of their investigation. Police said that the youths were from Wakefield and other area towns.

At about 9 a.m. on Saturday, a Water Street business owner reported the theft of scrap metal from his property.

A man was taken to MelroseWakefield Hospital at around noon on Saturday after a caller asked police to check on a man in a North Avenue business who might be intoxicated.

At about 2:15 on Saturday afternoon, police responded to a minor two-car crash in the area of Prospect and Elm streets.

Police, Fire and Cataldo Ambulance responded to Farm Street at about 4:30 on Saturday afternoon after a caller reported that a woman had fallen and was in need of an ambulance.

Police arrested a 28-year-old Danvers man on a warrant after a caller reported that a man was causing a disturbance at a gas station on Lowell Street at about 10:30 on Saturday night. Arriving officers arrested the man after they determined that he had multiple active warrants for motor vehicle offenses.

At about 8 a.m. on Sunday, a Marla Lane resident reported larceny from her checking account. The resident reported receiving alerts for purchases on her checking account that had not been authorized. She was also notified by by her bank that her login information had been changed. Police are investigating.
