ACW 2024

WHILE THESE NACHO chips and guacamole created by WHS artist Gabby Pajonotti may look incredibly lifelike and appetizing, they are actually not edible. Designed for the Ceramics Class Food Project, this project is meticulously made from clay and glazes, demonstrating remarkable craftsmanship. Rest assured, there will be light snacks provided at the Elements Art Exhibit this weekend.

WAKEFIELD — The main objective of the Arts Collaborative of Wakefield is to support local visual artists by providing both an online platform and a physical space to showcase their artwork. Those interested in art can explore and appreciate exceptional work on the ACW Artist Directory website or visit the Albion Cultural Exchange to experience art firsthand during the “Elements” Art Exhibit and Sale.

In its 13th year, the Artist Directory website artscollaborativeofwakefield.com features 135 local artists each with a dedicated page showcasing their artwork. Artists are organized alphabetically on the Artist Directory page and grouped by media on the Artwork by Medium page. Accessible on both computers and mobile devices, the platform enables users to explore local artists by name and artistic medium, accompanied by images of their work and contact details. Tailored for artists and art lovers, the online directory offers a convenient means to discover the dynamic creativity present in Wakefield.

Artists not only enjoy creating but also exhibiting, discussing and selling their work. The ACW arranges 2-3 nonjuried exhibits annually for this purpose. With the Recreation Department’s approval, the Albion Cultural Exchange serves as the primary venue for these exhibits, open to both members and non-members often showcasing WHS Visual Arts. The ACW relies on the support of its talented members to organize these exhibitions. Moreover, a monthly event named “Drop in and Art” has been launched on the second Tuesday and Wednesday of each month at the Cultural Exchange. Artists are urged to bring their supplies, socialize, seek inspiration and receive help with any artistic challenges they may face.

The current exhibition at the Cultural Exchange titled “Elements: Earth, Water, Air, Fire” will be available for viewing until October 25. It showcases a diverse range of artistic media such as paintings, batik, ceramics, photography, fibers and stained glass. Additionally, there is a collaborative display by ACW and Room to Write where authors submitted works on the Elements theme serving as inspiration for the artists’ creations. The exhibition highlights ten collaborative projects.

The well-received Small Works Fundraiser is currently underway with all proceeds benefiting PAWS. Participating artists are tasked with creating and donating artworks which are being sold for $10 each. This presents a wonderful opportunity to own one of a kind art pieces while contributing to a worthy cause. Contributions from all interested individuals are welcome with the requirement that the donated works must be small in size measuring 5 x 7 inches.
