WAKEFIELD — A woman has died after being struck by a truck on Main Street in Greenwood early last night.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Wakefield Police Chief Steven Skory have confirmed the ongoing investigation into a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred at around 6:26 p.m. on Main Street in the area of Hanson Street.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a woman in her 60s was struck by a man in his 50s operating a Nissan Frontier truck. The pedestrian suffered serious head injuries, according to the Wakefield Fire Department, which immediately requested MedFlight. She was responsive on scene and transported by ambulance to Veterans Field and a waiting helicopter. She was flown to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, where she later died.

The driver of the truck remained on the scene of the accident and was cooperative, police said.

The investigation is being conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Wakefield Police and the Massachusetts State Police Crash Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
