BURLINGTON — The Wakefield High girls’ cross country team ran a strong race on a tough 3.1 mile Burlington course on Tuesday. The Warriors beat the Red Devils 22-39, improving to 2-2 on the season.

Sammy Seabury continued her winning ways with another convincing first place overall finish in 19:54. The senior is undefeated with two meets left.

Burlington took 2nd, Wakefield took 3rd Burlington took 4th but the Warriors placed 5th through 10th overall to seal the victory.

Charlotte O’Neil took 3rd overall and 2nd for Wakefield with a time of 21:05.

“Charlotte continues to impress,” said head coach Karen Barrett. “She ran a fantastic race.”

Maddie Nett finished 5th overall and 3rd for Wakefield in 21:47.

“Maddie continues to be a strong scorer for our team,” said Barrett.

Maggie Leone (6th, 22:02), Julia Welsh (7th, 22:06), Devon Jellison (8th, 22:14) and Lexi Yianacopolus (9th, 22:36) finished off the varsity all running very strong.

Grace Brackett (10th, 23:22), eighth for the team, beat Burlingtons number 3 runner.

“It was a great team effort today. The team looked strong and we are looking forward to competing in Watertown next Tuesday,” said Barrett.

Wakefield’s juniors and seniors will be competing at the McIntyre Twilight Invitational this Saturday at the Cape Cod Fairgrounds.
