Korean War veteran and avid flyer

BEVERLY — Mario A. Guzzo, 87,  passed away at his home in Beverly on January 29, 2018.

Mario was born in Boston, was raised in East Boston, lived in Chelsea and Somerville for a few years, Melrose for over 40 years and the past 22 years in Beverly. He served his country with pride in the US Army during the Korean War. Mr. Guzzo was a plumbing and heating contractor and ran Mario A. Guzzo & Sons Inc. in Somerville for many years.

Mario held a private pilot’s license and was an avid flyer out of the Beverly Airport for many years. He loved art and music, enjoyed listening to jazz and had many friends throughout his life. Mr. Guzzo was past president of the Charlestown Kiwanis Club.

He was the beloved husband of Angelina (LaRosa) Guzzo for 66 years. Devoted father of Christine J. Guzzo of Wakefield, Joseph Guzzo, and Paul Guzzo and his wife Mairead all of Melrose, and Michael Guzzo of Wakefield. Proud grandfather of John, Joe, Angela and Kyra and great-grandfather of Jake.

Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Friday, February 2, from 9-10 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. Interment with military honors at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.
