Hobbies included motorcycles, scuba diving, tennis and music

WAKEFIELD — William Nelson Goddard, 76, of Wakefield passed away at his home after a battle with cancer on Saturday, February 22, 2020.

Bill was born in Malden on September 8, 1943. He was the son of the late Prudence (Nelson) (Goddard) White and the late George Everett Goddard. Bill was also the beloved stepson of the late Philip E. White of Lynn and Wakefield.

Bill grew up in Lynn and attended Lynn schools, graduating from Lynn Classical High School in 1962. He had a varied work history, but was longest and last employed with the United States Postal Service in Wakefield. He was a postal carrier for many years and was well known throughout town. He was also actively associated for 40 years with Jehovah’s Witnesses and attended the Saugus Congregation. Bill had a lively and inquisitive personality. He enjoyed getting to know people and easily made friends. His many hobbies over the years included motorcycles, scuba diving, tennis, and a lifelong love of music. In his later years he loved playing card games such as cribbage and doing yard work.

Bill is survived by his siblings, Jeffery Goddard of Salisbury, Christine (Goddard) Bergendahl of Danvers, Cheryl (Goddard) Robinson of Wakefield, Crystal (White) West of Lynnfield, Philip White Jr. of Burlington, Iowa, Roxanne (White) Bergendahl of Wakefield, Matthew White of Wakefield and Mark Goddard of Sandy, Utah. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Memorial services are to be determined. Arrangements were in the care of the McDonald Funeral Home, Wakefield.
