WAKEFIELD — As they work to keep young people safe, a group of parents, school and town officials will hold a meeting tonight regarding changes to Wakefield Memorial High’s Senior Week.
The meeting is set for 7 p.m. in the Galvin Middle School’s Memorial Auditorium.
Parents of WMHS students, especially seniors, are encouraged to attend to hear from school administrators, class advisors, class officers and parent volunteers about important changes.
The changes include establishing the first WMHS Senior Night. The goal is to provide a safe, substance-free celebration directly following Senior Prom.
Senior Night is a supervised, all-night event that provides graduates an opportunity to celebrate one final time in a safe and sober environment.
Over 20 communities in the state such as Acton-Boxborough, Milford, and Natick that provide a Safe Post-Prom event have virtually eliminated alcohol and drug-related injuries following the prom.
The statistics are alarming – more teenagers die of alcohol-related incidents during the three months surrounding graduation than at any other time of year.
The meeting tonight at the Galvin will allow parents and caregivers to learn about the changes from school leaders and parent organizers and give them the opportunity to ask questions.
