Warriors have six CAL All-Stars named

LYNNFIELD — The Lynnfield-Wakefield boys’ co-op swim team honored their All-Stars and presented special awards at the team’s annual banquet to officially bring the winter swim season to a close.
Seven of the 12 members of the boys’ swim team hailed from Wakefield Memorial High School this season. The Pioneer-Warriors had an excellent year, finishing the regular season with a record of 6-1, while also sending plenty of representative to sectionals and states.
The team had seven All-Stars selected in the Cape Ann League, including Wakefield’s Omar Rizk, Chris Anastasiades, Matt Pecjo, Johnny Stumpf, Antonio Anastasiades and Alex Kent.
Nicholas Alphen represented Lynnfield High School on the All-Star ballot.
Rizk, a senior, was recognized as a second team All-Star for his role in both the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay, as well as 200 yard individual medley.
Chris Anastasiades, a junior, was recognized for his phenomenal season as he was named the Reid Sacco MVP for the boys’ team. Anastasiades was named as an All-Star in four events, including the 200 freestyle, the 500 freestyle, the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay.
Pecjo, a junior, was named an All-Star for his work with the 200 freestyle relay.
Another junior, Johnny Stumpf was recognized as an All-Star in three events, including the first team All-Star 200 medley relay, the 400 freestyle relay and the individual 100 yard butterfly.
Antonio Anastasiades, a sophomore, also made the All-Star list in four categories. Anastasiades was a first team All-Star in the 200 IM, the 100 breaststroke and the 200 medley relay, while also making the second team All-Stars in the 400 freestyle relay.
Kent had a terrific season during his first year of high school competition. The Wakefield freshman was named the team’s Rookie of the Year and was recognized as a CAL All-Star in three events, including the 500 freestyle, the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay.
Overall, it was a fantastic season full of individual and team accolades. The boys’ team will certainly be in the mix for more accomplishments next season.
