WAKEFIELD – Topping the bill at tonight’s Town Council meeting is an update from Town Engineer Bill Renault regarding the status of the Broadway commuter rail crossing and the town’s “Quiet Zone.”

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. and will be held at the WCAT studio on Hemlock Road. The meeting will also be accessible remotely via Zoom. In addition, Town Council meetings are shown live over WCAT’s local channels and Facebook page.

The meeting will begin with “Public Participation.” Any member of the public who wishes to address the Town Council is asked to submit any comments or concerns to wakefield.ma.us/public-participation at least two hours prior to the start of the meeting. Alternatively, members of the public are invited to participate via the Zoom virtual meeting.

Also on the agenda tonight is the introduction of new Health Director Anthony Chui. The position of health Director is shared between Wakefield and the city of Melrose. Chui was recently hired as the permanent replacement for Ruth Clay, who retired from the position of Health Director several months ago. In the interim, Elaine Silva stepped down from her position on the Board of Health to serve as Interim Health Director.

Silva’s resignation leaves a vacancy on the three-member Board of Health, so on tonight’s Town Council agenda is a request to authorize the town to advertise for candidates to fill the vacant Board of Health position. A future joint meeting of the Town Council and remaining Board of Health members will make the appointment from the pool of applicants. The person appointed will serve until the 2022 Town Election.

Tonight’s agenda also list a request from Jonathan Arcari for a Class II (used car dealer) license for Jon Arcari Motors, located at 20 DelCarmine St.

The Council will also be asked to consider a request from Emanuel Santana for a Common Victualler license for a new restaurant, Recanto da Bahia, to be located at 927 Main St.

Tonight’s agenda also includes an update regarding the progress of the proposed new Northeast Metropolitan Regional Vocational High School.

Tonight’s Town Council agenda also calls for a review of the town’s Lake Use Policy.

The board will also be asked to transfer $1,000,000.00 from the General Fund to the Debt Service Capital Needs account.

Also at tonight’s meeting, Town Councilors will be updated regarding the number of applicants who have applied to date to serve on the Master Plan Advisory Committee. Applications and nominations are being accepted now through Oct. 15, 2021

Also on tonight’s agenda is a letter from Wakefield Community Access Television asking that the WCAT studio and facilities be included in any plan for a new Wakefield Memorial High School.
