BOSTON — The Wakefield High girls’ indoor track and field team went head-to-head against Melrose over vacation and showed what they are capable of as a team.

The athletes who were able to compete did a fantastic job against their rivals. However, the Red Raiders walked away from the BU track facility with a narrow 52-48 victory over the Warriors.

In the 55 meter hurdles, Maddie Seabury placed 2nd in a time of 10.94 seconds. Megan Clark was the top freshman in the league with her PR of 11:17 placing 3rd.

In the 55 meter dash, Gabby Minasian ran another PR to take the win in 8.01 seconds. Sydney Moon was 2nd in a time of 8.09.

Sammy Seabury ran a big PR in the mile to easily take the win and run the 2nd fastest time in Massachusetts this season.

In the 600 meters, Devon Jellison ran a PR time of 1:51.93 to place 2nd and Grace Seabury ran a PR of 1:51.97 for 3rd.

Caroline Roberts had a PR of 3:17 to place 2nd in the 1000 meters..

In the high jump, Maddie Seabury and Lizzy Roos placed 2nd and 3rd both jumping 4’6”.

In the long jump, Minasian placed 3rd with a 14 foot jump.

In the shot put, freshman Miranda Menjivar placed 3rd with a toss of 21’8” in her debut.

A strong race in the 2 mile by Charlotte O’Neil and Maggie Leone allowed the Warriors to post 8 points on the board with their 1st and 2nd place finishes in times of 12:38 and 12:40.

In the 4×200 meter relay, Rachel Caplin, Taylor Vater, Clark and Moon, placed 1st in 2:00.

The 4×400 meter relay team of Jellison, Grace Seabury, Roberts and Sammy Seabury placed 1st in 4:31.

Next on the schedule for the 1-2 Warriors is Stoneham at Boston University on Thursday.
