WAKEFIELD — The Middlesex League’s field hockey coaches met recently to vote on All-Stars for the 2021 season.

Four members of the Wakefield High field hockey team were named league All-Stars: seniors Abby Boudreau, Angelina Nardone and Elise Theriault and junior Grace Seabury.

Boudreau earned All-Star honors for the third consecutive season and was picked to the All-Conference team. The Co-Freedom Division MVP last year, Boudreau had another stellar season in net for the Warriors playing in all 19 games while earning an 89 percent save percentage and nine shutouts on the season.

The Warrior co-captain has been Wakefield High’s starting ice hockey goalie since she was in 8th grade. She picked up field hockey for the first time as a sophomore and quickly became the starter and an All-Star.

“Abby is an amazing goalie who has a really good work ethic,” said Wakefield head coach Cara Luca. “She understands the position and puts herself out there. She is not afraid to step out of the goal and go after the ball. Abby’s confidence has improved these past three years and she was more comfortable in net and became a better communicator.”

Elise Theriault was a key part of Wakefield’s attack this season, setting up multiple goals.

“Elise really stepped it up this year on and off the the field,” said Luca. “With her work ethic and determination she grew so much as a player. Her intensity on the field helped on the offensive end. She got the ball to the circle which allowed for scoring opportunities and always fought to keep the ball down at the opponents’ end.”

Theriault’s impact was felt in a multitude of ways for Wakefield.

“Her enthusiasm was a great part of our team,” said Luca. “Elise had a positive impact on the team this season with her passion for not only field hockey but her team spirit. She was the one who got the team in the huddles and gave the pep talks before and during the games.”

Nardone played multiple positions for the Warriors in her senior season, always stepping up wherever Wakefield needed an experienced and talented player, especially on defense and in the midfield.

“Angelina had a great senior year,” said Luca. “Her hard work was never unnoticed. She played all over the field as our utility player and gave it her all each and every day. She worked hard in the offseason to be ready for the season and it showed. Her energy and her hustle on the field was key to our ball movement.”

Seabury played the center forward (striker) position for the Warriors and led the team with 13 goals and three assists. The dynamic junior came through in multiple big games for Wakefield, including a hat trick in a 3-0 road win over rival Melrose, and has set herself up to be one of the best goal-scorers in program history when she returns for her senior season next year.

“Grace is an all around great athlete,” said Luca. “She has speed, stick skills and that scoring mentality a striker should have. Grace has worked hard this season to work on increasing her stick skills and 3D skills. Give Grace the ball and she can dribble down the field with speed and create a scoring opportunity.”

Wakefield finished 2nd in the Freedom Division with a regular season record of 10-7-1. After an 0-3-1 start against three strong Liberty Division teams and Watertown who took the Freedom Division title, the Warriors went on a six-game winning streak (all shutouts) to set the tone for the rest of the campaign. Wakefield earned a spot in the new statewide field hockey tournament with a number 20 seed and fell to No. 13 Notre Dame of Hingham 4-1 on the road in the first round.
