NORTH READING – Some local volunteers have come up with a unique way to raise some money for the upcoming North Reading Relay for Life – by pulling a 22-ton fire truck 50 feet next Saturday morning (April 8). Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and the first truck is set for 10 a.m. North Reading Relay for Life co-chairs Leanne Valade and Lisa Corsetti spoke with the Transcript this week about the upcoming fire truck pull, which was originally suggested by a representative from the American Cancer Society as a way to work with the community. Ideally, enough people will participate to allow a couple teams of at least ten. All are welcome to participate in the fire truck pull on April 8 at the fire station. Those under 18 will need a parent to sign an indemnification form. Registration is $10 per person, with all proceeds to benefit the June 2nd North Reading Relay for Life. This year’s event runs from 6 p.m. to midnight at the high school track, with teams – which can be as small as two people – walking throughout the duration. The teams will each have a general fundraising goal of $100 – and in about 15 years of existence, the North Reading Relay for Life has reportedly raised more than $1 million to help fight cancer.
