Post third straight win, take down Weston

WAKEFIELD — Even though the season is barely underway, the Warrior wrestling team is on a roll.

Wakefield won its third dual meet of the season and its home opener as it flattened Weston, 50-15, last night at the Charbonneau Field House.

The Warriors increased their record to 3-0 as they won nine of the 12 weight classes contested.

At 106, freshman Aidan Armstrong pinned Jon Martinkus at 1:22 to earn his first varsity victory.

Chris Alves, a sophomore, was pinned by Weston’s Angus Bremner at 2:26.

Jack Spicer, a junior, pulled out a 13-10 decision over Peter Martinkus at the 113 weight class to put the Warriors back in front.

But Weston evened the score at 9-9 as senior captain Evan McGuire dropped an 8-4 decision to Brandon Terry in the 126 bout.

The Wildcats took a 15-9 lead as a the result of a pin at 132. Kendall Hiltpold, a sophomore, was pinned at 1:05 by Alex Saylor.

Wakefield then won the rest of the weight classes contested for the lopsided victory.

At 145, Matt Murdocca, a junior, pinned Ronan Barrett at 2:33.

Ben Piercy, a junior, won by technical fall (19-1) over Jack Spector at the 152 weight class.

The Warriors won by pins at 160, 170, 182 and 285. The 195 and 220 weight classes weren’t contested.

At 160, junior Joe Marinaccio defeated Isaac Struhl at 56 seconds. At 170, senior captain Evan Gourville took down Matt Garfinkle at 1:48.

Steve Mercurio, a sophomore, pinned Nick Pomianek at 1:31 of the 182 bout. At 285, junior Anthony Denham defeated Ari Curelop at 1:10 for his first varsity win.

Wakefield hosts the Anthony Lisitano Memorial Tournament at 9 a.m. at the Charbonneau Field House.
