Swimmers open season; golfers play Woburn

Wakefield will meet Lexington in three sports today as the brand new fall season continues to unfold.

The Warrior girls’ swim team opens their season today against Arlington/Watertown and the golf team team travels to Woburn Country Club.

The swimmers will look to continue the momentum of a strong 2018 season today at their home pool at Malden High, 5:30 p.m. Wakefield beat Arlington/Watertown last season.

The golf team came up short against a strong Lexington squad on Thursday 41-31. Juniors Jack Ryan and Oliver Miller both won their matches, 6-3. The Warriors will travel to Woburn Country Club to play head coach Chris Keane’s alma mater. The Tanners edged Wakefield 36.5-35.5 last season. The Warriors host Watertown tomorrow, 4 p.m. at Thomson Country Club.

The Wakefield volleyball team will look to get in the win column when they play Lexington tonight, 5:15 p.m. at the Charbonneau Field House. The Minutemen won last year’s matchup 3-1. It will be the home opener for Wakefield who were topped by Reading 3-0 in the first game of the season last week. Lexington has beaten Wayland and Stoneham to start their season 2-0.

The Warrior boys’ soccer team will host an always powerful Lexington squad today at the Galvin Middle School, 5 p.m. It’s the home opener for the Warriors who lost their first game in Reading 2-0 last week. Lexington is 2-0 after wins over Malden and Stoneham. The Minutemen beat the Warriors 1-0 last year.

The Wakefield girls’ soccer team travels to Lexington today at 3:45 p.m. The Warriors are 1-0 after their season opening win over Reading last week while Lexington is 0-1 after falling to Stoneham. The Warriors are looking to avenge a 4-0 loss from last season. The girls will host Arlington on Thursday at 4 p.m.
