WAKEFIELD — The Middlesex League’s field hockey coaches met recently to select the All-Star teams.
The WMHS field hockey team, who finished fourth in the Freedom Division with a 6-8-3 league record and a 7-8-3 overall record, had three All-Stars selected as senior Aguila Lever and juniors Annabella Forziati and Hope Melanson made the list.
Lever played a big role on the back line to help the Warriors have one of the best defenses in the league. Melanson had a great season in the midfield. Forziati was one of Wakefield’s best forwards all season and a strong goal-scorer.
Freedom champion Watertown (16-0-1) who won the Div. 2 North, tied with second-place Stoneham (9-7-2) as each team had five All-Stars selected. Wilmington (9-8-1) and Wakefield were next with three selections each. Burlington (3-13) and Melrose (2-13-3) each had two All-Stars.
Liberty champion Lexington (15-1-2) led the balloting with six All-Stars including MVP Abbie Ortyl. Second-place Belmont (12-4) was next with five selections. Winchester (12-4-2) had four All-Stars while Reading (9-7-2) and Arlington (3-13) each had two and Woburn (0-15-1) had one.
In a new All-Star format this year, an 11-member All-Conference team was selected. Lexington and Watertown led the way with three selections each. The three Watertown selections (Gabby Venezia, Ally Kennedy and Olivia Lampasona) were the only representatives from the Freedom Division.
