NORWELL — The Wakefield Memorial High School girls’ track and field team had a full bus when they drove out to Norwell on Saturday for the Massachusetts State Freshman-Sophomore Meet.

“In my 21 years of coaching I have never had more girls qualify for this state meet,” said Wakefield head coach Karen Barrett, as the Warriors brought 22 athletes to compete in the meet.

Sophomore Olivia Fetherston stole the show for the Warriors as she won the high jump, clearing 5’1”. Wakefield’s Maddy Melanson was 3rd with a 4’11” jump. There were 53 competitors in the event.

“This is such an awesome accomplishment for both girls,” said Barrett.

Fetherston continued her excellent day by getting a medal in the long jump with a 6th place 15’11” leap.

“Olivia Fetherston was amazing today,” said Barrett.

Sophomore Olivia Lucey earned a medal with a 5th place, 5:31 time in the mile.

Sophomore Retta Carroll had a nice personal record in the two mile with a 12:46.

Freshman Elina Olmedo also ran her best race of the season with a PR in the 800 of 2:33.

Sophomore Adriana Minasian was great in the triple jump with a 31’5”.

Sophomore Sarah Labiad made it to the finals in the 200, placing 7th overall with a 27.2.

Minasian and Labiad later teamed up with freshmen Bridget Noell and Reignyah Grant to medal in the 4×100 with a 3rd place finish.

Other qualifiers for the meet included sophomores Lillian Jones, Rachel Cook, Julia Castellano, Emily Pudvah and freshmen Grace Butler, Shannon Driscoll, Lily Camille-Cullan, Audrey Schopperle and Maggie Rich.

“I was really proud that we brought a full squad to this meet,” said Barrett.

The Warriors are traveling to Stoneham today for their final regular season meet.
