WAKEFIELD — The Wakefield Garden Club (WGC) opened the 2024-2025 season with its Annual Harvest Brunch at the home of Cheryl Krasker recently. The meeting commenced with new members being greeted and introduced to the membership. Members shared their culinary talents, auctioned off garden related items and enjoyed an afternoon of laughter and friendship.

The Civic Betterment Committee headed by Maureen Coughlin and Diane Kelley along with members Nancy McCarthy, Ellen Hennessy, Amy Brennan and Nuala Grady were busy this week removing spent summer annuals and replacing them with autumn plantings. Crimson and gold chrysanthemums, kale, sunflowers, tall cornstalks, multi-colored pumpkins and whimsical ornaments give the Welcome to Wakefield Sign that a new season is here.

The committee then proceeded to the Hartshorne House at the Better Homes and Garden Stone that acknowledges their work regarding the planting of the Floral Way.  Here the removal and replacement of plantings groomed the site handsomely. At last, the group left for the Lynnfield-Wakefield Methodist Church, where WGC meets for their monthly meetings. They added color and interest between their front shrubs for their final touch.

WGC membership is still opened for those still interested in about their upcoming programs. This year a paint workshop is scheduled, a book club is starting and much more. Please visit our website at wakefieldgarden.org, call Rose Guanci at 781-224-9798 or email rosemguanci@hotmail.com.
