LYNNFIELD — Friday night’s win over Georgetown was eventful in more ways than one. Not only was it the first varsity game played at the new LHS athletic complex, but it was also the 50th win for Pioneer head coach Neal Weidman.

The victory lifts him into third place on the all-time LHS coaching victories list, past the Pioneers’ first-ever head coach, Steve Sobieck, who won 49 games in the first nine years of the program. Bill Rodan, who coached from 1969 to 1984, is the all-time leader with 101 wins. Bill Adams, who had two stints as the Pioneers’ head coach from 1985-1994 and 2000-2007, is in second place with 69 victories.

With a 50-23 record, Weidman sports the best winning percentage of all LHS coaches at .684. He also reached this milestone faster than his predecessors, accomplishing it in 73 games. Rodan needed 75 games and Adams reached 50 after 112 games.

“I didn’t know it was the 50th until they announced it and Dave (Adams) dumped the water on me,” Weidman said after the game. “The fact that the boys dumped the water on me felt good. I appreciated that. Now I’ll be happy with 51.”
