WAKEFIELD — Some call it sauce, others call it gravy. But will yours be called “Best Sauce In Wakefield”?

The Wakefield Event Planning Committee presents Festival Italia’s Second Annual Cookoff coming in August.

According to Wikipedia: Tomato sauce is any of a very large number of sauces made primarily from tomatoes, usually to be served as part of a dish (rather than as a condiment). Tomato sauces are common for meat and vegetables but they are perhaps best known as sauces for pasta dishes.

(So, as you can see, even WIKI calls it SAUCE!)

Rules:

• Wakefield residents or businesses only.

• Participation is limited to the first 10 to call 781-245-5838. Please leave your name and number; you will be called back and an application with additional instructions will be mailed to your Wakefield address once it is determined that you are eligible to participate. Proper ID will be required the day of the event. This is first come, first serve. Please call early if you wish to participate.

• Recipe MUST be submitted with completed application and ingredients must be clearly marked with submission for allergy alerts the day of the event.

• Sauce can contain NO meat but you can cook your sauce with meat in it. Small bits of meat that are too small to remove will be OK but no visible meat chunks should be in your sauce. Winner will have their recipe and photo printed in the Wakefield Daily Item, Facebook and Twitter! You, or a representative, must be present to win first prize.

• Prizes (gift certificates) will be awarded to top three winners.
