SACRAMENTO, Calif. — William A. “Buddy” DeCecca, a Wakefield native and a retired Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, died on Dec. 13.

Mr. DeCecca was born on June 16, 1923 in Wakefield.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force on April 23, 1942 and served in the 13th AAF Bomber Barons as a ball turret gunner on a B24 Liberator in the southwest Pacific. Mr. DeCecca was awarded the Oak Leaf Cluster for Meritorious Achievement.

He retired from the U.S. Air Force in May 1964.

Mr. DeCecca was a mail carrier for the U.S. Post Office in Rancho Cordova, Calif. from 1965 to 1982.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ada May; his daughters Linda and Charline (Toni) and his son-in-law Nicky. He is also survived by relatives and friends in Wakefield. Mr. DeCecca was predeceased by his brother Charles, also of Wakefield, who was killed in action at Guadalcanal on Nov. 21, 1942.

Services were held at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery on Jan. 16.
