Obit-Tassinari-webWAKEFIELD — William A. Tassinari, 98, of Wakefield died Dec. 19 in Melrose.

He was born Jan. 2, 1916 and was the son of the late Joseph and Agnes Josephine (Pioppi) Tassinari.

Mr. Tassinari was raised in East Boston and was a graduate of Boston English High School Class of 1934. He was a Wakefield resident since 1951.

Mr. Tassinari was a retired lieutenant firefighter for the Boston Fire Department. He participated in the Civilian Conservation Corps of 1937 and was a World War II Army veteran.

From 1940 to 1945 he had worked as a welder at Boston Naval Ship Yard.

He was married at St. Benedict Church in Somerville on Jan. 27, 1951.

Mr. Tassinari enjoyed fishing, golf and bowling and had been a member St. Florence Church and also a member of the church’s Holy Name Society. He had also been a member of the Colonial Chorus and the North Reading Chorale.

Mr. Tassinari was the beloved husband of the late Genevieve (Swed) Tassinari. He was the loving father of William J. Tassinari of Wakefield, Janice Tassinari and her partner Donald Fries of Great Barrington. He was preceded in death by his siblings Joseph, Bernard, Louis, Horace, Augustus, Anna and Agnes Tassinari, Beatrice McGurin, Mary Seward and Alma Cassidy. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Wednesday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Florence Church, 47 Butler Ave., Wakefield at 10. Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
