WAKEFIELD — William E. “Bill” Barter, 83, of Wakefield died Monday, April 30, 2018 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.
Bill was born on November 29, 1934 and was the son of the late William E. and Bertha (Wells) Barter.
Mr. Barter was raised in Malden. He had been a longtime Wakefield resident, having been in the area for more than 60 years. Bill had retired from the Shelmar Banner Glass of Wakefield after 48 years. He was an avid sports fan and took pride in being a longtime Little League coach in Wakefield.
Bill is survived by his longtime companion Claudia Torre. He was the loving father of William E. Barter of South Carolina and Daniel E. Barter of New Hampshire. He was the brother of the late Earl Barter, Bertha Melanson, Nancy Doucette, and Bess Rikeman. Bill was the adoring grandfather of Faith Gomez and Jessie Barter and Owen and Sawyer Barter.
His funeral service will be held in the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Friday May 4, at 12 noon. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
