READING — William M. Fowler, 96, of Reading and formerly of Wakefield, died Sunday, Oct. 26, at the Meadowview Care and Rehab Center.

Born in Wakefield on Sept. 30, 1918, he was the son of the late George H. and Gertrude (Morgan) Fowler.

Mr. Fowler was raised in Wakefield and was a graduate of Wakefield High School. He later served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

Mr. Fowler was a retired supervisor for the United States Postal Service of Wakefield. He had been a Life Member of the Wakefield Lodge of the Elks #1276 and had also been a resident of Holiday, Fla. for 25 years.

Mr. Fowler was the husband of the late Eleanor L. (Brennan) Fowler. He was the father of Dr. William M. Fowler Jr. and his wife Marilyn of Reading, Michelle L. Fowler of Houston, Texas and the late Sandra Jean Mitchell. He was the father-in-law of Douglas Mitchell. He was the grandfather of Alison (Fowler) Contarino and her husband Anthony of Wilmington, Nathaniel Fowler of New York City, Morgan (Mitchell) Ruthwicz and her husband Jason of Middleboro and the late Andrew Mitchell. He is also survived by his three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.

His funeral will be held from the funeral home on Friday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Athanasius Church, 300 Haverhill St., Reading at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.
