MELROSE — William O. Wass, 89, of Melrose died on Monday, Nov. 14 at the Woodbriar Health Center in Wilmington.

Born in Newton on March 17, 1927, he was the son of the late William and Ethel (Tynan) Wass.

Mr. Wass was raised and educated in Wakefield and had been a longtime Melrose resident. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Wass had retired from Benson and Goss Fuel Company in Melrose as an oil burner serviceman. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge Fidelity in Melrose.

Mr. Wass is survived by his wife Elizabeth M. (Johnson) Wass. He is also survived by his four children; William D. Wass and his wife Nancy of Randolph; Deborah J. Karagoezian and her husband Yenovk of Framingham; Elizabeth A. Scarafone of Melrose; and Robert J. Wass and his wife Margaret of Reading. He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Mr. Wass was predeceased by his sister Janet Seabury.

A funeral service will be held in the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 5 Bryant St., Wakefield on Tuesday, Nov. 21 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Monday from 4-8 p.m.
