MOULTONBORO, NH — William R. Gilbert, age 90, of Moultonboro, NH formerly of Wakefield, died Friday, February 17 at the Rockingham County Nursing Home in New Hampshire.

Born in Lynn on August 29, 1926, he was the son of the late Archer W. and Elsie (Hoffman) Gilbert.

Raised in Saugus, Bill was a graduate of Saugus High School, Class of 1943. He then went on to serve in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

Later he became the owner of Glenmere Hardware in Lynn before it was sold in 1980. He had then worked part time for Wakefield Supply as well as Grossman’s.

Bill was a Wakefield resident for 23 years and was a member of St. Florence Church.

He was the husband of the late Eugenia R. (Ritchie) Gilbert. He was the father of Kathleen M. Robbins of New Hampshire, Thomas M. Gilbert and his wife Janet F. Jordan-Gilbert of Haverhill, Kevin Gilbert and his wife Sharon of Arizona, Ann E. Bennion and her husband William of North Carolina, and the late David W. Gilbert. He was the brother of Virginia Johnson of Virginia. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Friday at 11 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Florence Church, 47 Butler Ave., Wakefield at 12 noon.

Interment to follow at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
