WAKEFIELD — Police are investigating a shooting incident early this morning on Audubon Road that resulted in an Everett woman being taken to the hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds.

At approximately 3:50 a.m., the Wakefield Police responded to a parking garage located at 14 Audubon Rd. for a medical aid. Upon arrival, officers located a woman in her 20s with an apparent gunshot wound. She was treated on scene by first responders and paramedics from the Wakefield Fire Department and transported to Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington by Cataldo Ambulance.

Police said that the woman’s injuries did not appear to be self-inflicted. They could not say what connection, if any, the woman had to 14 Audubon Rd. 

The case is currently being investigated by the Wakefield Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police, and the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.

At this time, police do not believe that this was a random act and do not believe that the public is in danger.

An Albion Street resident called police at about 11:15 yesterday morning to report that a fraudulent claim for unemployment benefits had been submitted in their name.

At about 12:15 p.m. yesterday, police took a call from a Hancock Street resident reporting that an unemployment claim had been filed in the name of a deceased relative.

Police, Fire and Cataldo Ambulance were called to the area of Vernon and Lowell streets yesterday at about 2:30 p.m. for an accident involving a 2017 Subaru Outback driven by a Wakefield woman and a tractor driven by a Wakefield man. There were no reported injuries.

At about 3:45 yesterday afternoon, police dispersed a group of teens that had gathered behind the Doyle School.

Police are investigating an apparent shoplifting incident at Walgreen’s yesterday afternoon. Police were called to the store just before 4 p.m. after store personnel reported seeing two women on a security camera placing various hair and nail products in their purses and bags. The women reportedly left in a vehicle registered to a Boston resident.

At about 5:45 p.m. yesterday, a caller reported that a vehicle drove by the girls’ soccer practice at the Galvin Middle School and an occupant of the vehicle yelled something at the girls.

At about 6 p.m. yesterday, a caller reported that his 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee had been struck by an unknown vehicle while parked on Main Street in the Junction. The driver’s side mirror was damaged.

A Pleasant Street resident reported an attempted scam over the computer yesterday at about 6:45 p.m. The amount was $925; however the resident stopped the process and reported the incident to police before any funds were lost.

At about 10:30 last night a caller reported that youths in cars at the Galvin Middle School parking lot were lot being loud. Police sent the youths on their way.

The Fire Department responded to eight calls yesterday. Five of those were for medical aid.
