LYNNFIELD — The 2014-2015 wrestling season came to a close last week when the Black and Gold held its end of the season banquet.
The Black and Gold, which just finished the 11th year of the co-op program, had a number of reasons to celebrate this season. The grapplers concluded the season with an overall record of 21-4 and won the Division 3 North championship and Cape Ann League title for the third straight year.
LNR began the season finishing fifth in the Anthony Lisitano Tournament. The co-op team won the Pentucket Holiday Tournamet, Cohasset Tournament and the CAL/NEC Tournament.
The Black and Gold were semifinalists at the Division 3 State Dual Meet Tournament. Ten wrestlers place at the Division 3 North Sectional Individual Tournament. Three wrestlers placed at the Division 3 State Individual Tournament, which enabled the Black and Gold to finish 14th overall.
Additionally, sophomore Vitaliy Andrusyshyn, senior captain Joe Morse, senior captain Dominic Monzione, senior captain Lucas Pascucci, senior Brandon Troisi, junior Max Whyman and senior Nick Wilkinson earned Cape Ann League All-League recognition.
Award winners
Black and Gold head coach Craig Stone presented first time Iron Man Awards to freshman Andrew DiPietro, sophomore Matt Hall, sophomore Anthony Metrano and sophomore Chris Reardon. The second year winners were Andrushshyn, senior Victor Buonfiglio, sophomore Tim Goucher, sophomore Aaron Gautreau, sophomore Joe Gonthier, junior Kai Jean-Simon, senior Josh Marcinowski, senior Jake Mullin-Bernstein, sophomore Adam Rossetti and sophomore Connor Stead and Nick Wilkinson.
The third year Iron Man Award winners were senior Garrett Anderson, senior Austin Bradley, junior Zach Monzione, Morse, junior Max Robert, Troisi and Whyman. The fourth year Iron Man Award winners were Dominic Monzione and Pascucci.
Stone also presented team awards to several wrestlers. Pascucci received 100 Point Club, Most Pins and Contributed Most awards. Morse received the 100 Point Club and Contributed Most awards. Dominic Monzione received 100 Point Club, Most Takedowns and Outstanding Achievement awards and also received the John O’Donnell Team Spirit Award. Troisi received the 100 Point Club Award, Most Pins Award, Points and Fastest Fall Award and the Outstanding Achievement Award.
Whyman received the 100 Point Club and Outstanding Achievement awards. Anderson was the recipient of the Coaches Award. Mullin Bernstein received the 70 Point Club Award and the Most Improved Award. Sophomore Will Glover received the 80 Point Club Award. Andrusyshyn and Bradley each received a 70 Point Club Award.
Varsity letters
Stone present sub-varsity certificates to freshmen Matt Jaroncyk, Colin LaMusta, Ryan Quaglieri and Anthony Wilkinson. He also presented sub-varsity certificates to sophomores Zach Boon, Tim Goucher, Joe Gonthier, Matt Hall and Anthony Metrano as well as juniors Andrew Imbriano and Jake Sheehan.
Freshman Andrew DiPietro, who finished fifth in the Anthony Lisitano Tournament, received a varsity letter. The sophomores who received varsity letters were: Vitaliy Andrusyshyn (3rd CAL/NEC, 5th Sectional); Aaron Gautreau, Will Glover (3rd Cohasset, 4th CAL/NEC), Chris Reardon, Joe Reardon, Adam Rossetti and Connor Stead.
The juniors who received varsity letters were: Zach Blacker (4th Anthony Lisitano Tournament); Jared Curran; Kai Jean-Simon (5th Pentucket, 3rd Cohasset), Zack Monzione (first Pentucket Holiday, 5th Cohasset, 2nd CAL/NEC, 6th Sectional); Michael Reardon (5th Pentucket Holiday Tournament); Max Robert and Max Whyman (3rd Anthony Lisitano Tournament, 1st Pentucket, 2nd Cohasset, 1st Sectional and 6th State).

Captains announced
Stone also announced North Reading wrestler Michael Reardon and Lynnfield wrestlers Zach Monzione and Max Whyman were elected captains for the 2016 season, which will see the return of 25 wrestlers.
Stone said the grapplers will miss the seniors who officially said goodbye to the co-op team at the banquet.
“The contributions of the graduating seniors, who amassed a 91-9 dual meet record over the past four years, will certainly be missed,” said Stone.
