NORTH READING — With just eight players returning from last season the NRHS the varsity boys lacrosse team, in the words of Head Coach Chuck Campobasso is “inexperienced, young and will be learning along the way.” But even with these challenges Campobasso still expects the team to compete for a CAL title and make a deep state tournament run.

In order for these expectations to become a reality North Reading will need contributions from the entire team especially their six seniors; Nick Ponte, Patrick Riley, Nate Distasio, Brian Cotter, Cam Fagan, and Brad Lumb.

Distasio, Fagan, Lumb and talented freshman Sean Fagan will carry the load on offense and Cotter will be a key cog at midfield. Riley will be counted on in the defensive zone and Ponte will anchor the team in net. Riley, Ponte and Distasio will provide leadership as well.

It will be all hands on deck for the Hornets in order to navigate the Cape Ann League. Said Campobasso, “The CAL is one of the most competitive lacrosse leagues in the state and this year is no different.” He went on to say: “But as long as we strive to improve each time we step onto the field we will be in the mix for the CAL title.”
