NORTH READING — Young fishermen, boys and girls of all ages, headed to Martins Pond in North Reading for the 19th annual Martins Pond Children’s Fishing Derby sponsored by the Martins Pond Association, the Wildside Bass Club and the Mass. Bass Federation.
The fish were biting, the mosquitoes weren’t and a good time was had by all.
Sixty–six youngsters from 11 Massachusetts towns brought their parents and grandparents to the Derby for an inter–generational day of fun on beautiful, placid Martins Pond.
The winners were:
Ages 3–6: 1. Aidan Sullivan, 5, North Reading, .47 lb. large mouth bass; 2. Derek Halloran, 4, Stoneham, .46 lb. large mouth bass; 3. Ryan Downs, 6, North Reading, .42 lb. yellow perch.
Ages 7–11: 1. Jason Piscatelli, 9, Andover, .95 large mouth bass; 2. Jessica McArdle, 8, North Reading, .86 catfish; 3. Josie Lambert, 7, North Reading, .53 perch.
Ages 12–15: 1. Maguire Koepke, 13, North Reading, 1.90 large mouth bass; 2. Harley Duffley, 12, North Reading, .90 large mouth bass; 3. Meghan Onessimo, 14, North Reading, .84 large mouth bass.
The catch of the day belonged to Garrett Butler, 13, of North Reading, who reeled in a 2.45 lb. large mouth bass.
