NORTH READING — Young fishermen of all ages and both genders headed to Martins Pond for the 18th annual Martins Pond Children’s Fishing Derby sponsored by the Martins Pond Association, the Wildside Bass Club and the Mass. Bass Federation. The fish were biting that day and a good time was had by all.
Seventy–seven children from nine Massachusetts towns, plus New York and California had a great time with their elders on a beautiful, sunny day at Martins Pond.
The winners were:
Ages 3–7: 1. Molly Kenney, 5, Wilmington, .85 lb. catfish; 2. Brendan Trentsch, 7, North Reading, .75 lb. catfish; 3. Mikayla Haley, 7, North Reading, .70 lb. catfish.
Ages 8–11: 1. Owen Delano, 10, North Reading, 1.05 lb. large mouth bass; 2. Travis Long, 10, North Reading, 1.02 lb. catfish; 3. Evan Wilson, 10, North Reading, .79 lb. catfish.
Ages 12–16: 1. Romano Duncan, 14, Andover, .95 lb. large mouth bass; 2. Tommy Duncan, 14, Andover, .80 lb. large mouth bass; 3. Morgan Burke, 15, North Reading, .72 lb. catfish; 4. Christopher Nearing, 13, North Reading, .72 lb. large mouth bass.
The catch of the day belonged to John Gemmell, 14, of Andover, who reeled in a 4.16 lb. large mouth bass.
