After press time: Lynnfield falls to Hamilton-Wenham 75-65 (April 24)

LYNNFIELD — In their season opener on April 10, the Lynnfield High girls’ track and field team fell to guest Ipswich, 86-59, at Lynnfield Middle School.

“They have a good team with some very talented runners,” said Pioneers head coach Christine Smith.

Lynnfield did have six individual winners in this meet. The six winners were Eliana Moretti in the shot-put (26- 7.5 feet), Emilie Bell in the discus (89.9), Allison Maddocks in the triple jump (30.10.5), Abby Lopez in the javelin (85.-8), Viola Wertz in the two mile (13:56) and Chase Carangelo in the high jump (4-8).

The Pioneers ended up sweeping the high jump as Maddocks was second and Katie Shrewsbury placed third. Both came in at 4-6 but Maddocks did it first to place second

The six other second-place finishes were Bell in the shot-put (26- 3.5), Shea Moore in the pole vault (7-0), Melissa Caprio in the long jump (15-1.5), Gabby Bottaro in the mile (6:04.3), Lauren Mattia in the 800 (2:56.3) and Adriana Buccillo in the discus (61-7).

Seven Pioneers, along with Shrewsbury in the high jump, placed third. Those seven were Olivia Goguen in the 400 (1:15.5), Goguen and Emma Greenleaf in the long jump (14-8.5), Manning in the triple jump (29-11), Ava Freni in the 200-meters (30.30 seconds), Greenleaf in the 100-meter hurdles (18.2) and Aislin McCormack in the 400-meters (1:12.6).

On April 13, the girls competed in the 45th annual Ottaviani Invitational at Haverhill High. Moore was the lone medalist as she came in sixth in the pole vault at 7-06 (only the top six in each event medal).

There were 19 schools competing.

On April 24, the Pioneers host Hamilton-Wenham at 4 p.m. It is the team’s Senior Day as the six Pioneers 12th-graders will be honored before the meet.
